The 20-second review link that quietly fills your Google page

Tap, stars, done. When leaving a review takes 20 seconds, patients actually do it.

Better Reviews team · August 2026

A 20-second review link is a single short link that takes a patient straight from tap to stars – no searching for the practice, no scrolling for the review button, no logging in twice. Put that one link everywhere a patient already looks and it quietly fills your Google page, week after week, without anyone at the desk asking for anything. Here is how to set one up and where to place it.

Why 20 seconds is the number that matters

Most patients who say they’ll “leave you a nice review” genuinely mean it. Then they get home, search Google for the practice, can’t find the review button on their phone, and give up. Every extra step loses people. Cut the journey down to tap → stars → done and the maths flips: the goodwill that used to evaporate turns into reviews.

Those reviews are read. 76% of consumers regularly read online reviews when browsing local businesses (BrightLocal Local Consumer Review Survey 2023), and 46% trust online reviews as much as recommendations from friends and family (BrightLocal 2023). For healthcare it matters even more – 71% of patients check online reviews as the first step in finding a new doctor (Software Advice), and since NHS.uk closed its public star-ratings in 2025, Google is the main public rating left.

Where the link comes from

Google gives every verified Business Profile a “share review form” link – in your Google Business Profile dashboard, look for Ask for reviews. That link opens your review box directly. Two practical upgrades:

Where to put it (this is the “quietly” part)

The link works because it is ambient – present wherever a patient already looks, needing no conversation:

None of these interrupt anyone. That’s why this method suits stretched teams: it is set up once, then it simply exists.

Test it like a patient, not like a manager

Open the link on an ordinary phone, on mobile data, logged in as a normal Google account. Count the seconds and the taps. If it takes more than about 20 seconds to reach the stars, find the step that’s slowing it down and remove it. This ten-minute test is the difference between a link that works and one that only works on the practice PC.

Keep it honest

Two hard rules. Never offer anything – vouchers, prize draws, discounts – in exchange for a review; incentivised reviews breach Google’s policy. And never gate the link so only happy patients can reach Google; that breaches policy too. Under the UK’s Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act – in force for reviews since April 2025, with CMA guidance in CMA208 – hiding negative reviews or selectively soliciting positive ones is a banned practice in its own right, not just a Google-policy issue. The link’s job is to remove friction for everyone, not to filter who speaks. Do it honestly and the page fills with the truth – which, for most good practices, is exactly what they want made visible.
